ABOUT LUIZA CASPARY

Luiza Caspary, born on April 12, 1989, in Salvador (Bahia), is a Brazilian singer, composer, voice actress, and actress whose career spans music, dubbing, and accessibility advocacy. She spent most of her childhood in the southern city of Torres and Porto Alegre, where her artistic interests were strongly encouraged by her family. Luiza often recalls that her love for art began at home, where music was a natural part of family life. At the age of eight, she made her first appearance on stage in a theater production, performing a sketch inspired by Carmen Miranda - an early sign of her inclination toward performance, singing, and character work.

Throughout her musical career, she has composed more than a hundred songs blending pop, rock, and Brazilian MPB influences. Her first album, O Caminho Certo, was released in 2013 after being successfully crowdfunded through the Brazilian platform Catarse. The record, produced by Leo Henkin and recorded over several years in Porto Alegre, introduced her as an emotional and introspective songwriter. Its title track gained recognition and even became part of the soundtrack of the Brazilian film Insônia, debuting at the Gramado Film Festival. Her later musical projects continued to evolve, including Mergulho (2019), an album exploring personal themes and stylistic maturity. In 2022, she launched Survivor, a multimedia project inspired by the universe of The Last of Us, combining music, video, and narrative elements into a single artistic concept. This project included covers and reinterpretations of iconic tracks associated with the game, as well as a short film in which she acted.

Luiza is also well known for her impactful work as a voice actress. She is widely recognized as the Brazilian Portuguese voice of Ellie in The Last of Us, one of the most acclaimed characters in modern gaming. Her emotional delivery and deep understanding of the character earned her respect among fans and professionals. Beyond Ellie, she has voiced major roles in Uncharted 3 (Elena Fisher), Far Cry 5 (Faith Seed), The Walking Dead: The Game (Clementine), Brawl Stars (Mina) and numerous other productions. Through these roles, she became one of the most notable voices in Brazilian game localization.

A defining part of Luiza’s career is her commitment to accessibility and inclusion. She was the first Brazilian artist to produce a music video with audio description for visually impaired audiences, applying this technique to her song “O Caminho Certo.” She also brought accessibility into her live performances by offering live audio description on stage, describing her appearance, the setting, and the actions of her band so that visually impaired members of the audience could fully experience her concerts. Her advocacy extends to talks and lectures, including her participation in Campus Party Brasil, where she emphasized that people with disabilities are active consumers of culture and deserve equal access to art, media, and entertainment.

Today, Luiza lives in São Paulo and continues working both as a musician and a voice actress. She also runs the YouTube channel LuluTV, where she shares vlogs, personal insights, creative processes, and reflections on social issues. Her artistic identity is shaped by authenticity, emotional depth, and a strong commitment to social responsibility. As an innovator in accessibility and a powerful voice in Brazilian entertainment, she represents a unique blend of artistry, empathy, and cultural influence, inspiring audiences and creators who value both creative expression and inclusivity.

INTERVIEW

Q: Luiza, your career in voice acting began at an early age. How did you get into this art form and what attracted you to voice acting?

Luiza: I grew up watching my mother become an actress, I always loved watching rehearsals and recordings, and I followed in her footsteps. In music too, I had a grandfather who was a pianist, my father is a poet, and my uncles play the guitar.

Q: What characteristics and difficulties arise when dubbing animated characters or video games, compared to work in film or theatre?

Luiza: Life is all in the voice; we concentrate all personality and emotion there. It takes a lot of focus and concentration, alignment with the director, and respect for the work.

Q: What helps you create such unique voices for the characters? Do you use any special methods or techniques to make the character’s voice and emotions come alive and full of layers?

Luiza: The first method is LISTENING. I listen carefully; I don’t do anything without really understanding it. The other thing is to actually feel the emotion and not fake it. Years of vocal technique also help, as well as knowing where to place your voice and muscles to sound introspective, extroverted, happy, angry, etc.

Q: How do you deal with challenges such as dubbing characters with special voices or states? Have you ever had to go beyond your usual limits to achieve the desired effect?

Luiza: I had a lot of difficulty doing angry scenes before dubbing. When I acted with my image in front of the cameras, it always seemed fake, you know? But in the studio in front of the mic, I broke that barrier. Another state I can easily get into is sadness. I’ve recorded several times with a genuinely choked voice.

Q: Have you ever voiced characters in genres that are not very close to you? How do you adapt to these roles?

Luiza: I think everything I’ve done has been completely different from me.

Q: How do you keep your voice in good condition and avoid fatigue or injury?

Luiza: I drink lots and lots of water, I don’t shout, I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, I value my sleep, I consume little sugar, etc.

Q: What is it like working with directors and the crew during filming? What is most important to you - precision in your voice or freedom to interpret the role?

Luiza: The most important thing is to play along. I always arrive warmed up and prepared, and I work with directors and technicians who are open to hearing what I can offer in terms of acting, but sometimes directors are already stuck on an idea and want us to execute what is in their head. There are directors who make me feel terrible and like a bad actress, and others who play along, who are human and everything flows smoothly. I like to work in a relaxed manner.

Q: How do you find the balance between voice and emotions, especially when your character is going through intense experiences or difficult situations?

Luiza: Combining technique with real emotion.

Q: Which project in your voice acting career do you consider the most difficult and why?

Luiza: I think AILA, which has just come out and will be released, Brazilian game, original voice. The character is full of nuances and subtexts, every sentence has something behind it, nothing is in vain, Marco (director) helped me a lot!

Q: You recently voiced a new character in Brawl Stars - Mina. How did you prepare for this role? What characteristics of the character did you need to consider when creating her voice?

Luiza: This was an original voice role in Portuguese and English.
I was called for the audition by an English agent I work with, and I got the part☺️
I received several guidelines and characteristics, recorded remotely from my studio in São Paulo, connected with the client in Europe. It was a really cool experience, and they made me feel very comfortable to create and change the lines. I loved it!

Q: Mina is an energetic character with a very distinctive style. How did you manage to convey her individuality using only your voice?

Luiza: Again: technique, emotion, direction and years of experience.

Q: Mina has a unique sound and character. How important is it for you to create characters that fans immediately recognise as unique and unforgettable?

Luiza: I love that uniqueness and I love not being recognised, it shows that I did my job right🤣

Q: How was the main recording process for Mina - how long did it take you to find a voice that matched the character and find her voice in the game? Were there any lines that didn’t make it into the final version?

Luiza: We found the right tone in the test I sent, then we just recorded for real, and everything made it in!

Q: Since you recently voiced Mina, not everyone knows it’s your voice. Was there any reaction from fans when they found out who Mina’s voice was?

Luiza: Before it came out that it was me, I was reading comments from people trying to figure out who it was, and some even thought it was AI. I thought it was funny.

Q: Many voice actors are facing the growth of AI. What is your opinion on this? Will AI replace voice actors soon?

Luiza: AI has already influenced the market, becoming an ‘aesthetic’ that I find tacky, but like everything else in the world, people get used to it and lose their filter. I think there will be a change, some more mechanical and informative things will be AI, more human and artisanal things will remain and gain more value.

Q: Could you share any interesting stories or funny moments from your time in the recording booth?

Luiza: Hahaha, I’m great at dodging burps that come up in the middle of a line, I cover it up well, it happens a lot.

Q: What do you think makes Mina’s role in Brawl Stars different from the other characters you’ve voiced in other projects?

Luiza: The freedom to be part of the character’s creation, without having a tone or interpretation to follow, that’s the thing!

Q: To conclude the interview - what are your future career plans? What can the public expect from you?

Luiza: I have some games being recorded, children’s projects, and an album I released, another original album next year, workshops, events, shows… I’m constantly on the move, that’s what life is all about♥️
