INTRODUCTION

Boom Beach is one of Supercell’s games that may not be quite as popular as the company’s other titles, but it’s a game that people love and play. There’s always been one special month for Boom Beach - March. Why? It was in this month that the game was first released, marking the company’s third title. And March 2026 is no exception - this year marks a full 12 years since the game’s launch. However, this month has turned out to be particularly exciting for the game, as the developers have prepared a HUGE amount of content that you couldn’t possibly cover in just five minutes!

In this article, Gamerland Media will tell you how Boom Beach is celebrating its 12th anniversary, what new features the game has introduced, and how the game will develop in the future!

MARCH - ANNIVERSARY MONTH

Before we move on to the game announcements for March 2026, did you know that you can get 2 Boom Boxes for free in the game? It’s a very rare decoration that you can only get for free once a year! Not sure how to get it? Check out the quick guide below!

This decoration is available from 1 to 31 March each year. On other dates, it is not possible to obtain this decoration, even though Party Island is still available! It cannot be purchased with diamonds!

Speaking of diamonds, Boom Beach has decided to give players a whopping 480 diamonds. The distribution schedule is simple: from 1 to 30 March, 12 diamonds will be available in the shop every day. On 26 March, the game’s birthday, in addition to the diamonds, players can look forward to another special gift, the nature of which is unknown at the time of writing, though it is most likely to be an exclusive decoration to mark the game’s 12th anniversary. And on 31 March, players will receive a whopping 120 diamonds for free. In total, this will amount to 480 diamonds.

In addition to this calendar, there is another special calendar called “This [month] on Boom”, in which the developers highlight important in-game events taking place in a given month. You can view the full list of events for March 2026 below!

As for the Boom Pass, it has also changed this time - or, to be more precise, its main reward has. Whilst the standard reward in the Boom Pass is usually a character or building skin, this time it’s a whopping 2,000 camo tickets, which can be used to purchase various in-game cosmetics. From April, the rewards will revert to their previous format.

MARCH 2026 - NEW BOOM BEACH UPDATE

On 11 March, a teaser for the new “Beach Talk” will be released, promising to showcase new features such as leaders, gadgets and much more! The video itself will be released on 12 March, and the game will be updated on 17 March!

LEADERS

This time, Beach Talk was hosted by two people - Anna (production) and… Paula (former community manager for Squad Busters).

The review begins with the game’s biggest new feature: Leaders - a system that fundamentally changes how players approach combat in Boom Beach. This feature becomes available starting from HQ7 and introduces 25 unique troop leaders, marking one of the most significant gameplay updates in the game’s history.

Players can recruit leaders through a new system based on loot boxes, which are opened using key cards. These key cards can be obtained in multiple ways, including daily events like Cycle of Evil, special one-time events tied to the update, daily login rewards, and through a new in-game shop that uses additional currencies. There is also a guarantee system in place, ensuring that players receive valuable rewards such as leaders or gadgets after opening a certain number of boxes.

Each leader is unique, featuring their own characteristics, abilities, and talents. Only one leader can be assigned to each landing craft, and they accompany the squad into battle. Unlike the traditional system - where each landing craft carries only a single troop type - players can now customize their loadouts by adding a leader, effectively enhancing and modifying the role of that troop.

Leaders act as stronger versions of standard units and are designed for nearly every troop type in the game. A key change is that leaders are not restricted by HQ progression, meaning players can use leaders tied to troops that would normally unlock much later. This allows even low-level players to access advanced gameplay elements much earlier.

In terms of mechanics, leaders come with two types of abilities. Active abilities require Gunboat Energy and can be manually activated during battle, often functioning as tactical tools that improve mobility, survivability, or battlefield control. Passive abilities, on the other hand, provide constant bonuses throughout the attack. Unlike older mechanics, leaders no longer rely on traditional flare behavior and are instead controlled through a separate interface. They are visually marked during battles, although in large-scale attacks it can still be difficult to track them among multiple units.

Image
Picture 6. Boom Beach new feature: Leaders

Leaders can be upgraded up to 13 levels using special resources such as field manuals for early levels and action reports for later upgrades. Upgrading improves both active and passive abilities, making leaders significantly more powerful over time. Importantly, leader strength is also tied to troop levels in the Armory, meaning players need to upgrade both the leader and the base troop to maximize effectiveness.

In addition, leaders feature a talent system that is unlocked through duplicates. Each leader can have up to five talents, which can significantly enhance their performance or even change how a unit behaves in combat. This makes duplicates an important part of progression rather than just a bonus.

There are two main types of leaders: Sergeants and Lieutenants. Sergeants have either one active or one passive ability, while Lieutenants are more powerful and include both types. Due to their versatility and strength, Lieutenants are rarer and more valuable.

The update also introduces a wide variety of leaders with unique designs, weapons, and mechanics. Some can spawn additional units, while others provide utility effects or influence battlefield control. This variety adds significant depth to gameplay, but also increases overall complexity - especially in larger battles where managing multiple leaders and their abilities at once can become challenging.

GADGETS

Alongside leaders, the update also introduces a second major system: Gadgets - defensive modifiers that can be equipped on buildings. These serve as powerful enhancements and significantly expand the strategic depth of base design and defense.

Gadgets unlock at HQ7 and allow players to equip special modifiers to their buildings, with the exception of the Headquarters. Initially, players can equip up to 5 gadgets, with the number increasing to 15 at higher HQ levels. This system enables a level of defensive customization that was previously impossible.

Gadgets can be assigned to almost any building, including non-defensive structures, which leads to unusual but potentially powerful strategic combinations. This flexibility opens up new gameplay possibilities, although it may require careful planning to use effectively.

There are over 20 different gadgets in the update, divided into three rarities: common, rare, and epic. Each gadget provides a unique effect that can significantly influence battle outcomes. These effects include increasing building health, adding shields, healing buildings when they deal damage, causing explosions upon destruction, reducing shock duration, damaging nearby units, allowing defenses to see through smoke, and even forcing troops into panic behavior. Some gadgets can also spawn units when buildings are destroyed, adding an additional layer of unpredictability to defensive setups.

Gadgets can be equipped, reassigned between buildings, and even locked to prevent accidental changes. Before attacking a base, players are able to preview which gadgets are active, making scouting more important than ever due to the added complexity these systems introduce.

Like leaders, gadgets are primarily obtained through a loot box system. If players receive unwanted gadgets, they can scrap them into a new resource called modules, which is used for upgrading. Gadgets can be improved in two main ways: leveling up and ranking up through duplicates.

Leveling up gadgets using modules increases the health bonus they provide to buildings, with higher rarities offering greater potential bonuses. However, the more impactful progression system comes from duplicates. By collecting multiple copies of the same gadget, players can rank them up, improving their core abilities rather than just their stats. This makes duplicates especially valuable, as they directly enhance the effectiveness of a gadget.

Image
Picture 7. Boom Beach new feature: Gadgets

Another important aspect of the system is flexibility. Players are not limited to using different gadgets on each building - if enough copies are available, it is possible to equip multiple buildings with the same gadget. This enables highly specialized defensive strategies, such as stacking identical effects across an entire base.

Some gadgets can drastically alter gameplay behavior. For example, certain modifiers can force troops to ignore specific buildings, change targeting logic, or introduce entirely new mechanics like spawning additional units upon destruction. These effects can significantly disrupt standard attack strategies and force players to adapt their approach.

Overall, the Gadgets system adds a completely new defensive dimension to Boom Beach, making base-building more dynamic, complex, and strategic. Combined with the Leaders system, this update represents one of the most transformative changes in the game’s history, offering both offensive and defensive gameplay far more depth and variety than ever before.

NEW CURRENCIES & SYSTEMS

This update introduces multiple new currencies, significantly expanding the progression systems and adding several new layers of resource management. While these systems provide more depth and long-term progression, they also make the game noticeably more complex, especially for newer players.

At the core of the update are Keycards, which are used to open loot boxes containing leaders and gadgets. These can be earned through a variety of activities, including daily events such as Cycle of Evil, special one-time update events, login rewards, and even a free daily claim. In addition, players can obtain key cards through other in-game currencies.

Image
Picture 8. Recriting for 1 or 10 Keycards

One of those currencies is Card Pieces, which are primarily earned through daily tasks. These tasks include simple objectives such as winning battles or completing missions, encouraging consistent daily play. Card pieces can then be exchanged for key cards in a dedicated shop, effectively acting as a secondary path toward loot box progression.

For gadget progression, the update introduces Modules. These are obtained by scrapping unwanted gadgets and are used to upgrade the level of gadgets, increasing the health bonus they provide to buildings. This creates a recycling system where duplicate or unused items still contribute to overall progression.

Leaders, on the other hand, rely on two separate upgrade resources: Field Manuals and Action Reports. Field manuals are used for early levels, while action reports are required for higher-level upgrades. This split progression system adds a sense of scaling difficulty and resource planning as players invest further into their leaders.

Another new currency is Circuit Blocks, which are obtained when acquiring leaders or gadgets. These are used in a separate shop that offers additional resources, including more key cards, upgrade materials, and other progression items. This creates an additional loop where almost every action feeds into another system.

Beyond currencies, the update also introduces multiple new systems tied to them. The traditional shop has been expanded into several specialized “black market” shops, each focused on different resources such as card pieces or circuit blocks. These shops rotate and offer different items, encouraging players to engage regularly.

In conclusion, while the addition of these currencies greatly increases progression depth and provides multiple ways to earn rewards, it also introduces a level of complexity that may feel overwhelming at first. Players will need time to understand how each resource interacts with the others. Fortunately, the game includes tutorials and UI guidance to help ease players into the new systems.

RECRUITMENT & LOOT BOXES

Both leaders and gadgets are obtained through a new recruitment system based on loot boxes, which becomes a central part of progression in the update. This system is closely tied to key cards, the primary resource required to open these boxes.

Players have access to several ways of interacting with the loot box system. One of the most accessible features is a free daily loot box, allowing consistent progress even without heavy grinding. In addition, players can choose to open multiple boxes at once, significantly speeding up the process when they have accumulated enough key cards.

Image
Picture 9. Daily Tasks in Boom Beach

Each loot box contains a random set of rewards, which can include leaders, gadgets, or various supporting resources. The system is fully transparent, with visible drop rates, allowing players to understand their chances of receiving specific items.

To balance randomness, the system also includes a guarantee mechanic. After opening a certain number of loot boxes, players are guaranteed to receive higher-value rewards, such as squad leaders or higher-rarity items. For example, specific milestones ensure that players will eventually obtain Sergeants and, later, more powerful Lieutenants, even if they are unlucky with random drops.

In practice, gadgets appear significantly more frequently than leaders. This makes leaders feel more rare and valuable, while gadgets form the bulk of progression and customization. As a result, players may need to invest more time and resources to build a strong collection of leaders compared to gadgets.

To sum up, the recruitment and loot box system is designed to provide a steady sense of progression, combining randomness with guaranteed rewards. However, it also introduces a grind element, requiring players to consistently engage with events, daily tasks, and shops to maximize their gains.

BLACK MARKET & SHOPS

The update also introduces a revamped shop system, now referred to as Black Markets, which plays a central role in the new progression loop. Instead of relying on a single general shop, the system is now divided into multiple specialized sections, each focused on different resources and currencies.

Image
Picture 11. Shop of evil

Among the key shops are the Shop of Evil, the Card Piece Shop, and the Circuit Block Shop. Each of them offers different types of items, including key cards, upgrade materials, and other valuable resources tied to the new systems. This separation makes the economy more structured, but also requires players to better understand where and how to spend each currency.

The Shop of Evil has also been adjusted compared to previous versions of the game. Rather than focusing on traditional loot, it now emphasizes the new currencies introduced in the update, making it an important source of progression materials. At the same time, other shops allow players to convert resources like card pieces and circuit blocks into key cards, leader upgrade items, and additional rewards.

Image

Daily tasks now play a crucial role in this system. By completing simple objectives - such as winning battles or completing missions - players earn currencies like card pieces, which can then be spent in the Black Markets. This creates a consistent gameplay loop where daily activity directly contributes to long-term progression.

EVENTS & REWARDS

The update also introduces several new systems designed to encourage consistent daily play and long-term engagement. These systems are closely tied to the new progression mechanics, ensuring that players are regularly rewarded for their activity.

One of the core additions is the daily task system, which provides players with simple objectives such as winning battles or completing missions. By finishing these tasks, players earn card pieces, a key currency that can later be exchanged for key cards and other valuable resources. This creates a steady and reliable way to progress through the new recruitment system.

In addition, the update expands login rewards, giving players extra incentives to return to the game every day. These rewards can include key cards, currencies, and other progression materials, helping players gradually build up their resources over time.

Another notable feature is the introduction of community events. These events are based on collective player activity - for example, deploying leaders in battles. As the global player base reaches certain milestones, rewards are unlocked for everyone. This adds a social element to progression and encourages participation across the entire community.

The Cycle of Evil has also been updated. Resources have now been reintroduced as rewards in these events, making them more valuable and worthwhile to complete. Instead of focusing only on specific currencies, players can once again earn traditional resources like gold, wood, stone, and iron, improving overall progression balance.

BOOM BEACH ON PC

In addition to all the new content in the update, Supercell has officially confirmed that Boom Beach will be coming to PC. This marks the first time the game will be available outside of mobile devices, opening a new way for players to experience the game’s deep strategy systems.

The PC version is a fully official release, not an emulator. Players will not need third-party programs like BlueStacks, and the game will be fully supported on the platform. While it will include the same content as the mobile version, including leaders, gadgets, new currencies, and the revamped Black Markets, the PC interface will make managing these systems easier. The larger screen and precise mouse-and-keyboard controls allow players to better track leaders, assign gadgets to buildings, manage resources, and navigate the new shops.

The PC version is expected to release a few weeks after the update with leaders and gadgets, tentatively around April. Progress will remain synchronized with mobile accounts, so players can seamlessly continue their existing progress on PC.

During early previews, many features were tested on the PC version. This included leader abilities, gadget assignments, and new visual interfaces. On PC, players can more easily see leader icons, track gadget effects, and manage multiple layers of progression, making the new systems more accessible, especially in large-scale battles or complex base setups.

ADDITIONAL CHANGES

In addition to leaders, gadgets, new currencies, shops, and events, the update introduces several important quality-of-life improvements and system adjustments. These changes aim to enhance both early-game progression and long-term strategic options.

One major bonus is a free month of Instant Training for all players. This allows everyone, regardless of current HQ level, to accelerate troop training without additional cost. Unlike previous iterations, this free month runs on a separate timer, so it does not overlap with any existing Instant Training timers. This provides a meaningful boost for players preparing for new content or focusing on rapid progression.

Image
Picture 16. Free instant training will be until 17th April, 2026

While the update does not add a new Headquarters level - no HQ 29 is included - other systems have been expanded. At maximum HQ, players can now equip up to 15 gadget slots, enabling highly customized defensive setups across the main base. This improvement complements the newly introduced gadgets, increasing the strategic possibilities for both offense and defense.

The update also brings improvements to early-game progression. Players at lower HQ levels benefit from streamlined mechanics, allowing them to unlock and experience new features like leaders and gadgets earlier than before. These adjustments make the onboarding experience smoother while also preparing players for the complexity of late-game strategies.

Finally, Training Grounds have been updated to provide time-savers as rewards. Completing activities in the Training Grounds now grants 10 time-savers per task, making it a reliable source for accelerating troop development and practice sessions.

CONCLUSION

To conclude this article, one thing can be said and confirmed: this update has completely transformed the game. The update has been available in the game since 17th March. Another key point not mentioned in the article is that the Boom Beach team is expanding to ensure a bright future for the game. In addition to this, active development of the game’s official roadmap is also underway

With just a single update, the game has been given a new lease of life. The game will live on and continue to evolve, despite having been around since 2014. The game’s statistics will change significantly following the update, which will also attract new players to see just how much the game has changed
