Supercell has released one of the most significant updates in the history of Boom Beach. A new headquarters level, a completely new defensive building, a revamped resource management system, an updated player profile and important bug fixes - this patch is changing the meta on several fronts at once. Let’s take a look at everything in turn.

LEVEL 29 HEADQUARTERS: A NEW PROGRESSION CAP

The main news of this update is the ability to upgrade your Headquarters (HQ) to level 29. For veteran players who have long been stuck at the previous progression cap, this is a long-awaited development.

This means that HQ 28 owners now have a full-fledged long-term development plan for the coming weeks: sequential upgrades to the HQ itself, followed by the gradual levelling up of the entire base infrastructure to a new maximum.

GARRISON: A NEW DEFENSIVE BUILDING THAT CHANGES THE GAME

The most conceptually interesting new feature in this update is the Garrison. This is a fundamentally new type of defensive structure, unlike any of the existing buildings.

How does the Garrison differ from the Bunker?

The game already features a Bunker - a building that houses troops to defend the base. They remain inside and only engage in combat when enemies approach the fortification itself.

The Garrison operates in a fundamentally different way:

  • Troops stationed in the Garrison do not remain inside the building, but patrol the area around it.
  • They automatically attack any enemies within the building’s detection radius.
  • If units from the Garrison are killed in battle, they automatically respawn - and continue patrolling again. Respawning continues until the Garrison building itself is destroyed.

This creates a fundamentally new dynamic for defence. Previously, base defence relied solely on static structures: cannons, towers and mortars stood in place and fired at advancing troops. Now, the attacker faces a new threat - living patrols that can intercept troops on the march, disrupt the attack route and divert the squad’s attention onto themselves.

Garrison Upgrade Levels

The building has 9 upgrade levels. In keeping with Boom Beach tradition, each level improves the building’s stats and those of its garrison units: the patrols’ health, their damage, and possibly their detection range and respawn speed.

Impact on the defensive meta

The introduction of the Garrison is arguably the most significant change to the defensive meta in recent years. Here’s why:

For the attacker, the situation becomes more complex. When planning an assault, one must now take into account not only the positions of static guns but also dynamic patrols. If troops move through the Garrison’s detection zone, they will encounter the enemy before they even reach key objectives. This forces attackers to rethink their routes and make greater use of smoke screens or diversionary manoeuvres.

For the defender, new opportunities for building defences open up. The Garrison allows you to create a ‘living screen’ in front of key defensive structures. Even if the attacker destroys a patrol, the units will respawn - and demand renewed attention. This increases the resilience of the defence and consumes more of the attacker’s gunboat support resources.

For base builders, this means they’ll need to explore new defensive strategies. Where exactly should the Garrison be placed? How close to the headquarters? How can the patrol zones of multiple Garrisons be coordinated? These questions will become part of a new meta-discussion within the community.

THE RATIONS SYSTEM: A NEW APPROACH TO RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The second major new feature of this update is the Rations system. It changes the way troops are maintained in bunkers and garrisons.

How did it work before?

Prior to this update, maintaining troops in bunkers was funded by gold. The base constantly produced gold, part of which went towards “gold” for defensive troops. If gold production fell below the level of maintenance costs, the troops were taken out of action.

What has changed?

The system is now more complex. Instead of gold, a special resource has been introduced: Rations. Each Bunker and Garrison has its own supply gauge, which the player must periodically replenish.

Several types of resources are used to replenish stocks:

  • Gold
  • Wood
  • Stone
  • Diamonds
  • (possibly others)

If a particular building’s Rations gauge runs low, the troops within it become inactive - that is, they stop patrolling or defending the base until the Rations are replenished.

What does this mean for the player?

The Rations system adds a new layer of resource management. It is no longer enough simply to build Bunkers and Garrisons and forget about them - you need to regularly monitor stock levels and replenish them in good time.

On the one hand, this complicates the daily routine: it adds another item to the list of daily tasks. On the other hand, it introduces a strategic dimension: the player is forced to decide which buildings to prioritise when allocating resources, if there aren’t enough supplies to cover everything at once. This creates a choice between defensive priorities, something that was previously absent from this aspect of the game.

The multi-resource replenishment system (gold + wood + stone + diamonds) also means that different types of resources now compete for use. Wood and stone were traditionally spent only on construction and upgrades - now they have a new, permanent use.

PLAYER PROFILE: TRANSPARENCY AND STATISTICS

This update introduces a detailed profile page for each player. It’s a feature the community has been eagerly awaiting.

What does the profile show?

  • Progress statistics - base development level, achievements and key indicators.
  • Task Force composition - which Task Force the player belongs to.
  • Headquarters (HQ) level - a quick way to understand what stage of development the team is at.
  • Warships achievements - the player’s performance in “Warships” mode.

Whose profiles can you view?

You can view both your own profile and those of other players. This opens up several practical scenarios:

  • Reconnaissance before an attack: you can study the base owner’s profile before a landing operation.
  • Recruiting for Task Forces: Task Force leaders can now assess a candidate based on their profile, rather than just their HQ level.
  • Social interaction: the game becomes slightly less anonymous - every player now has a digital “face”.

This is a small but important feature for the game’s community aspect.

TROOP MANIA UPDATE

The popular Troop Mania event has undergone two significant changes.

Lowered entry threshold

Previously, Troop Mania was only available from a certain HQ level, preventing new players from taking part. Now the event is available from HQ Level 5. This makes it accessible almost from the very start of the game - good news for new players, who will be able to take part in the event and claim its rewards much sooner.

Rare Troops with Reduced Stats

The second change alters the very nature of the event. Players can now use rare troops - such as Bombers or Mechas - even if they haven’t yet unlocked them in their arsenal.

A caveat: troops that haven’t been unlocked by the player will be available within Troop Mania, but with reduced stats compared to their fully levelled-up versions.

This is a significant change. On the one hand, it allows players of any level to try out different types of troops and familiarise themselves with their mechanics. On the other hand, it creates an interesting competitive dynamic: experienced players with fully levelled-up Bombers gain a natural advantage over those using the unlocked version with reduced stats.

FIXES AND QUALITY-OF-LIFE IMPROVEMENTS

In addition to major new features, this update includes a number of important fixes and improvements.

Technical fixes

Server errors have been fixed - stability issues affecting connections have been resolved.

Quest bugs have been fixed - in particular, errors related to Hammerman’s quests, which were not being counted or were functioning incorrectly, have been resolved.

Hero balance

Lt. Julius Mass’s talent has been reworked - this is one of the most significant balance changes in the patch. Previously, the talent only granted a health bonus to the hero himself. Now, the bonus applies to the entire squad. This significantly increases Lt. Julius Mass’s value in offensive compositions, particularly when playing with large squads of heavy units.

Interface improvements

Quick boosts for tribes - the interface for applying boosts to tribes has been revamped to speed up the process. It now requires fewer taps.

Event changes

Hammerman Mondays has been updated - the weekly “Hammerman Mondays” event can now include orange helicopters. This adds a new level of difficulty to the familiar event and will require players to rethink their standard strategies against Hammerman air drops.

CONCLUSION

This patch is one of the most substantial we’ve seen in recent times. Let’s break down exactly what’s changing in the game following its release.

A fundamentally new tool is introduced to defence: the Garrison, featuring patrolling and respawning units. The meta-game in defence will be redefined: the community’s best base builders are already working on new strategies that take live patrols into account.

A new layer is added to resource management via the Rations system. Wood and stone now have constant uses beyond construction, which changes resource allocation priorities.

In HQ progression, HQ 29 opens up new horizons for veterans who have been stuck in a rut for a long time. The chain of upgrades upon reaching the new HQ level will ensure weeks of active base development.

In hero balance, Julius Mass has been significantly buffed - his talent now affects the entire squad, making him a competitive choice in situations where other heroes were previously preferred.

In terms of accessibility, lowering the Troop Mania threshold to HQ 5 makes the game more welcoming for newcomers.

Perhaps the main takeaway is this: Garrison and Rations together form a new paradigm for defensive play. Defence is now not just about the correct placement of defences, but also the active management of live troops and their resource supply. This makes Boom Beach both strategically deeper and more demanding.
