Story about being one of the best Warships players in the world - how to be good at Warships?

INTRODUCTION

Warships is one of the most underrated and underappreciated modes in Boom Beach. Unlike the main game, it resets every season - a fresh meta, a fresh tech tree, a fresh chance to prove yourself. And yet, season after season, the same names appear at the top of the leaderboard.

Suryansh from India is one of those names. With over 70 seasons of experience, seven top 500 finishes, and two top 50 finishes, he is one of the most consistent Warships players in the world. We sat down with him to talk about the mode's history, what separates good players from great ones, and what it actually takes to reach the top.

FROM A 2014 AD TO 70+ SEASONS

Suryansh's journey with Boom Beach started the way many do - unexpectedly.

"I've been playing Boom Beach since 2014, after about a month it came out. I found the game through an ad which said 'Boom Beach play now' at the end of the ad," he recalls with a laugh. "I got hooked really quickly."

When Warships launched, something clicked immediately.

"I liked it way more than the main base because every season is different and every decision matters. That's what kept me playing all these years."

Seventy seasons later, that sentiment hasn't changed.

HOW WARSHIPS HAS CHANGED

Over 70 seasons, the mode has evolved dramatically - but perhaps not in the way you might expect. The game itself hasn't necessarily gotten harder. The players have.

"Earlier everyone had to figure things out by themselves. Now there are videos, Discord servers, and top players sharing strategies within hours. So I don't think the game is easier - I think the players are much stronger now."

This is a crucial distinction. The knowledge barrier that once separated top players from the rest has been dramatically lowered by the community itself. Today, a new player can access in hours what once took seasons to figure out.

BREAKING INTO TOP 500 FOR THE FIRST TIME

Reaching top 500 in the world for the first time is a milestone that Suryansh remembers clearly.

"The first time felt amazing because I finally knew I could compete with the best players. After that I was more confident - but it never became easy. Every season has a different meta so you still have to earn it every time."

Seven top 500 finishes later, that competitive edge hasn't dulled. If anything, the bar keeps rising.

WHAT TOP 50 ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE

Most players dream of top 500. Top 50 is a different universe entirely.

"Top 50 is a completely different level. Almost everyone knows the best tech path and attacks really well. One small mistake can cost you literally your whole season sometimes - so every step and every battle feels important."

The margin for error at that level is essentially zero. There is no recovering from a bad tech decision or a sloppy attack run when your opponents are among the best players in the world.

A TYPICAL SEASON

For most players, Warships is something they dip in and out of. For Suryansh, the opening days of a season are a full commitment.

"The first few days I play a lot - maybe 8 hours - because that's when the biggest progress happens. After that usually around 6 hours. I mostly play enough to keep climbing."

He typically finishes in higher Diamond or Legendary ranks. The goal, however, is always higher.

LEGENDARY X: THE UNREACHABLE SUMMIT

Suryansh's highest rank is Legendary 1 - but the ceiling of the mode goes all the way to Legendary 10. Has he ever tried pushing that far?

"I've thought about it many times but Legendary 10 is just not possible in the current matchmaking meta. People at legend rank really don't get matches for hours. Maybe when it's possible again I will try my best to get up there."

The matches themselves at that level are unforgiving in a way that lower ranks simply aren't.

"There are no win streak stars or first win of the day bonuses, and if you lose a match it can be like hours of progress gone sometimes."

THE HARDEST SEASONS

When asked about the hardest season he has faced, Suryansh's answer is surprisingly honest.

"Maybe all the earlier seasons I played, as I made a lot of bad tech decisions. The hardest seasons are the ones where one wrong tech choice can ruin everything. If you spend keys on the wrong unlock it becomes really hard to catch up with everyone else."

He adds something that reveals just how seriously he takes competition: "All the seasons are hard for me as I am always trying to compete at the top."

SEASON 89: THOUGHTS ON THE CURRENT META

Season 89 has been defined by one central debate in the community: Barrage. Is it mandatory?

Suryansh's take is nuanced.

"Barrage is really important. If you skip it for too long you'll struggle against players who already have it, especially around Gold and Diamond rank. Collecting your chests and unlocks matters - but if you are a tank player then you might not need Barrage."

The key insight here is that the answer depends on your playstyle. Barrage is not universally mandatory - but skipping it without a clear plan is a risk that most players cannot afford.

HOW TO READ THE TECH TREE

One of the most important skills in Warships is tech tree planning - knowing what to unlock, when, and why. Suryansh's approach is a blend of personal experience and open-minded observation.

"I mostly trust my own experience first. I look at the tech tree before the season starts and think about different paths. I also watch other top players because you can always learn something new - but I don't copy everything and try to stick to the main important path connecting towards the end."

The emphasis on planning before spending is something he returns to repeatedly throughout the conversation.

THE MISTAKES THAT HOLD PLAYERS BACK

When asked about the most common mistakes he sees, Suryansh doesn't hold back.

"A lot of players unlock too many things without planning it enough. Then they run out of keys for the important unlocks. Some players also blame matchmaking instead of looking at what they could improve."

Two mistakes, both entirely avoidable. One is strategic - poor resource management. The other is psychological - refusing to take accountability for losses.

THE BIGGEST ISSUE WITH WARSHIPS RIGHT NOW

Every competitive mode has its balance problems. For Suryansh, the current one is clear.

"Sometimes one strategy becomes much stronger than everything else. I'd like to see more balance so players can win with different playstyles."

A meta dominated by a single strategy punishes creativity and rewards conformity. For a mode built around adaptation, that is a fundamental problem.

WHAT SURYANSH WANTS TO SEE

On the wishlist side, Suryansh has a clear vision for how Warships could improve.

"I'd like to see the new gadgets introduced into the seasons, maybe new mechanics, and better rewards for players who finish really high."

Better rewards for top finishes is a request that echoes across the competitive community - the current incentive structure does not always reflect the effort required to finish at the very top.

ADVICE FOR PLAYERS WHO WANT TO REACH TOP 500

For anyone looking to make their first deep run in Warships, Suryansh's advice is direct and practical.

"Plan your tech tree before spending keys. Watch good players. Practice your attacks and don't get frustrated after a few losses. Consistency, good unlocks, and good pushing points is what gets you to top 500 - not just one good day."

Three pillars: preparation, consistency, and mental resilience. There are no shortcuts.

WHAT KEEPS HIM COMING BACK

After more than 70 seasons, most players would have moved on. Not Suryansh.

"Every season feels different so it never gets boring. I enjoy figuring out new strategies, competing against the best players, and trying to finish even higher than before. That's what keeps me coming back."

And the goal for next season?

"The goal is top 5 now."

CONCLUSION

Suryansh's story is a reminder of what makes Warships special. It is not a mode you master once and leave. It resets, it evolves, and it demands that you evolve with it. After 70 seasons, he is still learning, still competing, and still pushing higher.

If you want to understand what it takes to reach the top of Warships, the answer is in this conversation: plan before you spend, study the best, stay consistent, and never stop improving.
